Project Overview

Conceived as a design and build project, Sur. Dubai was developed as a contemporary restaurant experience that reflects the freshness, fluidity, and sensory richness associated with seafood dining. The design narrative draws inspiration from the sea through layered textures, organic curves, and a calming palette of whites, blues, warm metallics, and natural wood tones.

The spatial journey begins with a striking entrance and a sculptural seafood display, setting the tone for the restaurant’s identity. Inside, the dining area balances openness and intimacy through a mix of banquette seating, loose dining arrangements, curated planting, and decorative lighting. The outdoor terrace extends the experience, offering an elevated dining environment framed by city views and lush greenery.

The Challenge

The main challenge was to create a restaurant identity that felt distinctive and memorable while remaining elegant, comfortable, and commercially functional. The space needed to support both the theatrical aspects of seafood presentation and the operational requirements of a high-end dining venue.

Another important challenge was balancing a strong visual concept with a relaxed guest experience. The interior had to feel expressive and premium, yet not overly formal. It also needed to transition seamlessly between indoor and outdoor dining while maintaining a cohesive brand presence throughout.

Our Approach

Our approach focused on shaping an environment that feels light, fluid, and immersive. Curved architectural features, textured white surfaces, and custom detailing were used to evoke movement and softness, while brass accents and marble surfaces introduced warmth and refinement.

The seafood display was designed as a central visual feature, reinforcing the restaurant’s culinary identity from the moment guests arrive. Throughout the dining space, seating layouts were carefully planned to support both intimate dining and larger social gatherings, creating flexibility without compromising comfort.

Material selection played a key role in defining the atmosphere. Blue upholstered seating references the marine concept, while timber, stone, and mosaic surfaces add texture and depth. Decorative lighting and suspended ceiling elements were incorporated to create a layered, almost sculptural overhead experience that enhances the ambience.

The terrace was treated as an extension of the interior, with coordinated finishes, greenery, and bar features that allow the outdoor space to feel equally curated and inviting. This continuity helps strengthen the overall identity of the restaurant while maximizing its location and views.

The Outcome

Sur. Dubai became a hospitality destination that combines strong visual identity with a refined and welcoming guest experience. The space offers a fresh interpretation of upscale seafood dining, where materiality, atmosphere, and function work together seamlessly.

As a design and build project, it reflects CK’s ability to deliver hospitality environments that are concept-driven, operationally efficient, and rich in experience.
